Watercolor Cats

I've been re-reading Carla Sonheim's book, Drawing Lab. One of the assignments is to draw a whole bunch of cats.

These are some of my kitties, and I decided to paint them with watercolors.

I've also been working on some more abstract, intuitive paintings--lots of mark-making and bright colors and just playing...

It was fun spending the day in the studio once everyone went to school. It's not that my family doesn't want me to go to the studio when they are home (sometimes they actually suggest it when I'm a little grumpy :)

But--when they are home, like they are during vacations and in the evening, I want to be with them...

So once they start back to school, I can spend lots and lots of time in the studio...

Absolutely adorable cats. Especially like the eyes outside the head! I have this book from the library it's due back soon. Maybe I'll do an exercise from it.

These are really fun! And the watercolor makes them pop. I have that book too but haven't used it yet.
