There Lived a Little Girl

I've had this canvas for almost a year and a half--all the text, red and gold paint--today I looked at it and thought 'I'll add hills and a loooong ladder, and paint one of my people!'

when I was little, I used to have the same dream over and over. I was in the middle of a huge room filled with adults. In the center of the room stood a red staircase, which I started to climb. At one point I realized that the stair was getting narrower and that there was no railing and I felt scared, but I kept climbing. Always, I would get to the ceiling, level with a huge crystal chandelier. And then I would wake up.

Oh, that's just incredibly beautiful. Where do you sell your work? I simply must know. Great dream, great story. Thank you.

Being that I'm an old Led Zeppelin fan my first thought was "Stairway to Heaven"....I love your paintings.

What an amazing dream! And it kept coming back. I'd love to know what message it was trying to convey...so persistently. The minute this piece scrolled into view, I thought: flying dream!

Wow...freedom of flight, yet a toe hooked back to the reality the ladder seems to represent.

I really love this!!

Karen, you really have a strong eye with layout and you have a signature colour palette which is what makes your works look fresh to me! What you do with your paints and digital collage I hope to master with my surface design on cloth and quilts. I've been trying to achieve this palette through dyeing...the reddish browns and oranges have eluded me, but I'm managed to come close to the golds and browns and blues. All that to say I find your palette personally inspiring.

I see the mom wanting to fly over her city to watch over her kids at his game or dance, making sure they are safe.

OMGosh! You have come so far in the last week, even. I'm in awe. I love the larger faces, but this whole figure illustration just captures it all. The colors, the texture, the shapes ... whew!

Sometime when your muse has slowed, you might try a series of this same "character." I could see you writing a story to go with them and illustrating it.

Love how she's in a scary, no-railing situation, but still fluidly balanced. Has some of your "underwater" art feel to it also.

When's your next exhibition? I want to be there!

I read through your posts to catch up.

Aha! I'm no expert in the dream interpretation department but that speaks volumes to me! Especially when it's juxtaposition with the posting about not enjoying confrontation!
