To-Do Lists

I always seem to have a long to-do list. Or my house always has a long to-do list.

It's a great house, perfect for parties and raising kids and critters...

But it's an old house. The air conditioner that cools three of the four bedrooms just croaked, which is kind of a yearly ritual, except that this time I think it's permanent.  Last year, when we had someone come to fix it, he came into the house, and said, "Do you know that this unit was made in 1970? It';s stamped right into the metal."

Forty-two years is a long run for an air conditioner. It's a long run for anything, for that matter. It's done it's job valiantly, but it's tired, understandably. I was tired at forty-two. And at forty-three, and all the way to forty-eight. but that's a whole 'nother story...

So the air conditioner has maybe gasped its last breath.

~~~
And my kitchen. Can you say
AVOCADO GREEN?
Don't get me wrong. I love avocados. I love green. But let's just admit that my kitchen might as well have 1970 stamped on it, just like the air conditioner. Now, it functions perfectly well, and I actually do like it since I painted the cupboards white. (It's much easier to like a kitchen that is AVOCADO GREEN and white, as opposed to AVOCADO GREEN and brown, apparently.)
And I know, if I wait long enough, avocado green will be back in style, just like bell-bottoms and Betty White... But I'm not sure I can wait that long.
~~~

Now, I know that I shouldn't complain. I mean,  after all, I have a giant 1963 stamped on me. Figuratively, of course. And while I may need to fixed in various ways (the list varies, I'm sure, depending on who you ask), I don't think the list for me is as long as the one I have for my house.

~~~
It's supposed to be a high of 108 degrees for the next three days.  That's hot. In case you didn't know. I mean, HOT. These next three days, if you wanted to, at my house, you could take a warm shower without ever touching the hot water faucet. The water in our pool is actually lukewarm. If days could have things stamped into them, today would say HOT in big bold capital letters.
~~~

School starts for all three kids on Monday. Jenny is a seventh grader at our little local elementary school, Katie is a senior at the high school in town, and Joel will be a sophomore in college.
Wow.  How did that happen?
My dad always told me that once one of the kids was in high school, time would really fly by,
and he was right.
Time flies,
 and I miss my dad.
So, regardless of to-do lists, and forty-two year old houses,and one-hundred-eight degrees on the thermometer,
I'm just going to enjoy these next couple of days,
before all the hustle and bustle of this school year begins.

They don't make things the way they used to make them. Now a days you will be lucky if an Air conditioner last ten years. I keep hoping ours keeps going but its up there in age too. Avocado green. I remember that color. yep soon all things old are new again. Hang in there the pendulum is swinging back your way. :))

I once had a green 2 door frig. My mom gave it to me.:) I really liked it. My kitchen is a pea green and pumpkin color right now. Soon though we will be painting. Haven't decided on the colors. Old things are always brought back. I always say there is nothing like the good old days when you can go for a walk and not worry about someone jumping you. Oh well. Thx for stopping by my Paint Party Friday post. I appreciate it.

Oh my goodness,,,,avocado green and harvest gold was the pick for 1973...and I have seen these colors called other things since. This post dates me for sure!! I loved when things lasted a lifetime. Mom had sunbeam set of beaters that lasted 35 years...I have probably had 10 sets in forty years!! Things aren't made the same!! That air conditioner was good to you! I have a couch that is in amazing shape at 22 years old. I can't justify getting rid of it...I have funked up the whole room with gypsy pink and black, and decided to live with the couch since it is a quality piece that works okay!! I bought a few new pillows to change things up! It's a throw away world, glad to see you value what you have!! I don't envy that heat, we have 85 and it's too hot for me!! Enjoy your week and your kids!! Time does fly. Mine is 26 and I'm shocked how fast that happened!! Great post!!
