Painting in Progress

Actually, this looks different now than it does in this picture, because I worked on it today and changed the bottom right portion of the picture. So now the bottom right has big splashes of orange and red covering up the Chinese Lantern. (Did you ever grow those? One of my elementary school teachers gave me some cuttings when I was little--I planted them on the side of the garage and they absolutely went wild. Totally aggressive species.) Anyhow--Katie suggested trying a stenciled effect around the edges of the images, I used glaze on a an earlier piece (The Pears) but I still used the white paint here because I didn't think that the blue edge stood out enough on it's own, even though it wasn't watered down like a glaze..

I also put a yellow glaze (quinacridone nickel azo gold) over the white circles/flowers on the left side. So now they look like they are glowing.

Sold two paintings this week! That's always exciting--One of them is a commissioned piece--24 by 48, which is the biggest that I've ever worked. I'm kinda getting into the big size--it was a little scary at first--all that white space!

Jenny has a friend over this afternoon. The friend's cable is not working, so she came to our house after school to watch the (taped) season finale of "Pretty Little Liars". Katie and Jenny watched it last night, when it was promised that one of the bad guys would be revealed. I watched it with them, although I was informed "no questions during the show, please," since I haven't watched all the episodes. The two of them screamed like crazies when the bad guy turned around and they saw the face. I wish I had videotaped their reaction--jumping around and shrieking. It will be interesting to hear Jenny's friend scream at the end. I've already heard one loud whoop from downstairs, and they just started watching it...
